Emergency Room Tips
These tips can help make your visit the the emergency room a successful
experience:
- State your main problem first.
- Remain calm. If bringing a
child, talk to the child about what is happening and what they can
expect.
- Bring a list of any of the
medications you or the patient is taking.
- Describe all your symptoms, how
long they've been happening, and any and all events which led up to
the visit.
- Have ready any information about
allergies or past medical conditions.
- Be honest and straightforward;
don't hold any information back.
- Be sure the emergency department
communicates with your primary care physician.
- Ask questions until you fully
understand what is being said to you. Don't let the atmosphere
intimidate you; emergency staff members are there to help you.
Reminder: There may be a co-payment
for emergency room visits. This co-payment may be waived if the patient is
admitted to the hospital within 24 hours of emergency treatment for a
life-threatening condition or accident.
